hiTechMODA and the breakout segment ReGen Runway make a Sustainability Fashion Statement

The highlight of the 9/7 hiTechMODA Saturday shows was the sustainable portion at 4 pm, entitled The ReGen Runway, featuring ten designer segments ranging in scope from Native American design to the handmade offerings from the Philippines. One of the segments within the show was the NYC Fair Trade Coalition featuring our own talented apparel designers and accessories with models strutting their runway-worthy fashions on the inclusive catwalk.

From the artistic recycled denim wildlife creations of Hannah Jane, to the beautifully flowing elegant designs of Atelier OM using natural fibers and dying processes, to Red Tale Moon with the photos of her farm sanctuary livestock friends on Tshirts (her kids!) to the hemp and repurposed sari fabric of Kromagnon, the variety and range was a wonderful representation of planet-friendly possibility. The looks were all complemented by Stella Lucchi’s jewelry and Volta Atelier’s purses and handbags. Loyal Footwear with its pineapple fiber shoes as well as The Organic Skin Care Company cosmetics, who provided all the makeup for the models, made the full head to toe compliance statement, keeping the entire message on point. Even the backstage snacks and treats were vegan and healthy provided by Wendy Renshaw of Leafy Kitchen.

“The sustainable ReGen Runway show sold out the fastest and garnered a tremendous amount of interest,’ said Catherine Schuller, the show’s curator and creative director, “even National Geographic was thrilled that there was an actual show that celebrated Mother Earth and showed that fashion can work with ecology in harmony and respect.” Assisting with the coordination, styling, and co-curating was NYC FTC’s own Lori Sutherland. Jeanine Boubli contributed photography for the video which played on the 40-foot video screen playing the delightfully appropriate song “World Hold On” by Bob Sinclair, remixed and edited by Attic Sounds in the Bronx.
